A List of Mitt Romney's Elitist Remarks

As an elitist, I don't particularly care about these gaffes.  Others may not be so forgiving.

On June 16, 2011: Romney told job-seekers in Florida that “I’m also unemployed.”

On Aug. 11, 2011: Confronting hecklers at the Iowa State Fair yelling at him about corporate profits, Romney replied: “Corporations are people, my friend.” The line, which the campaign has defended as an example of Romney’s devotion to capitalism, became a staple for liberal groups attacking Romney.

On Dec. 10, 2011: During a Sioux City, Iowa, debate, Romney tried to bet Rick Perry $10,000 that he was mistaken about the content of Romney’s book. “Rick, I’ll tell you what, 10,000 bucks, $10,000 bet?” Romney said.

On Jan. 8, 2012: Romney told a crowd in Rochester, N.H., that he, like those struggling in tough economies, knows the fear of losing a job. “I know what it’s like to worry whether you’re going to get fired,” he said. “There were a couple of times I wondered whether I was going to get a pink slip.”

On Jan. 9, 2012: Romney, speaking to a chamber of commerce in Nashua, N.H., said, “I like being able to fire people who provide services to me.” In context, the quotation was about choosing a health-insurance provider, but it too became an instant classic — the Rick Perry campaign turned the quip into a cell-phone ring tone downloadable from its website.

On Jan. 17, 2012: Romney called the $374,000 he earned in speaking fees “not very much” money.

On Feb. 1, 2012: Romney stepped on his sweeping Florida victory over Newt Gingrich in a CNN interview when he said: “I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there.” He took fire from both sides over it — from Democrats who suggested he doesn’t care about the poor and conservatives who detest the idea of a safety net.

On Feb. 24, 2012: Romney said "I drive a Mustang and a Chevy pickup.  Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs."   In front of 1,200 suit-wearing elitists and 65,000 empty seats at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

On Mar. 9, 2012:  Romney said "I'm learning to say y'all'. I like grits...Strange things are happening to me." to a crowd in Mississippi.  This is bad pandering.
